Water Analysis

WHAT IS WATER ANALYSIS?

RAM’s Water Analysis service within the building construction permits our engineers to identify whether the water is rainwater or clean water (potable/piped) assisting in the identification of the source of the water ingress i.e. whether the leak is as a result of a failure within the waterproofing envelope, or a failure of the water services within the building construction.

UKAS accredited water analysis

We undertake UKAS accredited chemical and microbiological analyses of the following. Test certificates are issued with reference to relevant standards or codes of practice:

  • Potable water for compliance with water quality regulations, including EC Directives
  • Legionella examination of water supplies and cooling towers
  • Vending machines for compliance with the relevant Codes of Practice
  • Purified water and process water for compliance with BP, JP, PhEur and USP specifications
  • Swimming pools and bathing waters for compliance with relevant standards
  • Natural waters, waste waters and effluents for compliance with consents

Once water samples have been analysed and we’ve identified whether the water is rainwater or clean water, we can use more targeted leak detection services to pinpoint the problem and provide recommendations on the most appropriate fix.

Legionella Testing and Compliance

What is Legionella?

Legionella bacteria is commonly found in water.

Legionnaires’ disease is a potentially fatal type of pneumonia, contracted by inhaling airborne water droplets containing viable Legionella bacteria. Such droplets can be created, for example, by: hot and cold-water outlets; atomisers; wet air conditioning plant; and whirlpool or hydrotherapy baths.

Who is responsible?

In a school it is likely to be either the employer or those with responsibility for the premises, this will vary depending upon the status of the school and who continues to maintain the premises. Schools converting to academy status often do not realise that they automatically assume the role of duty holder and compliance levels can quickly deteriorate.

Did you know?

It is a legal requirement to carry out a Legionella Risk Assessment Survey.

Water Analysis

In some cases, water analysis is needed to identify the underlying problem, and what you think is a wall or roof leak may actually be completely unrelated. Our specialist water analysis service can help businesses identify leaks in concrete, decks, balconies, roofs and walls, and this approach has saved many of our clients time and money.
